This was my second film working with Julia Michaels, after being a background artist on her previous short film, Route 413. This time I was working as part of her crew as a Production Assistant. Essentially that meant being a kind-of Girl Friday – also sometimes known as the “Runner” – as the person that helps out wherever needed by the production team.

The film told the story of a ballet dancer and (from memory) her grandmother. I remember visually a bit about the film, and I believe I have a copy of the film somewhere, probably on VHS though as I can’t find it online or on my computer anywhere at the moment.

I don’t remember too much about what I did or how long the film shoot went for, other than the importance of ensuring as a crew member that you are always out of shot! One of the scenes was filmed inside a private home, and I remember there was a shiny kettle on the bench in the kitchen which happened to be in shot. I thought I could see myself in the reflection of the shot, but we were already filming when I realised. I remember moving my hand slightly to check if the reflection was correct, and sure enough it was. I made the mistake however of never saying anything (until now!) and just hoping no-one else noticed! I think when I did eventually watch the film, I wasn’t moving in the final edit so it wasn’t noticeable and was likely easily missed by the editing team. I was probably the only one that knew to be able to look close enough to notice! I never made that mistake on set again though.

I did manage to find one photo of myself from on-set – not sure if that is the Director that is talking to me, but I know it’s not Julia. If I manage to find the film I will aim to put it up on here, and will hopefully be able to tell you who was in the cast & crew, because right now I have no idea!
