2003 Carpe Jugulum

Carpe Jugulum
  • Production Date: 17 – 31 October, 2003
  • Production Company: Brisbane Arts Theatre
  • Director: Sally Daly
  • My Role: Magrat Garlick

My first ever show with the Brisbane Arts Theatre was performing in this Terry Pratchett classic, Carpe Jugulum. I wasn’t familiar with his books at all, but it turned out that he has quite the following. I was cast in the role of Queen Magrat Garlick – one of the witches in this comic fantasy.

Directed by Sally Daly, this show was a fun, crazy, long story from Terry’s Discworld series about the small kingdom of Lancre which is thrown into chaos when King Verence II, in a moment of diplomatic naivety, invites a family of vampires from nearby Uberwald to the naming ceremony of his newborn daughter.

There are many names I recognise in the program that I either worked with again, or still keep in contact with. I didn’t realise that this was probably the show where I first met the lovely Sandra Harman, whom worked behind the scenes in publicity & marketing for this show. I also had the chance to work with a few of the cast and crew again on the next Terry Pratchett show I did in 2005, The Fifth Elephant.

I am sure there were photos of this production somewhere but I cannot find any so they must not be digital. If I do come across any I will come back and update this post. I did check the Art Theatre’s archive and Facebook page, but it seems that Facebook wasn’t quite around just yet. I only found one photo of myself with an audience member (Renata) after the show. At least I can share the program with you though!
