My second short film with Vernon was a fun shoot that took place in Carindale, Brisbane. The story was about a mother who felt like she was turning into a robot, doing the same thing everyday. I had a young co-star who played my daughter and I remember one scene we had to shoot on the road where she was getting into the car. The road was a busy secondary road, and I don’t remember why (I’ll have to re-watch the film sometime) but when the young actor was getting into the car, I remember we had to wait for traffic to clear and then I ushered her quickly into the car for the take because she was getting into the car on the road side, not the footpath side for some reason – so safety was paramount. Thankfully we had no issues though.

I also remember that someone made me a ‘robot’ outfit made of cardboard boxes, painted silver, which I had to wear as my character, Ethel, started to turn into the ‘robot’. It was weird but I have to say some of Vernon’s films were fun to work on and were often interesting little stories.

This film is currently on VHS I believe, so I will have to convert it to digital to be able to share it with you! So watch this space….
