Far Away
  • Production Date: 08 Nov – 04 Dec, 2004
  • Production Company:  QLD Theatre Company, Brisbane
  • Playwright:  Caryl Churchill
  • My Role:  Ensemble Volunteer

This was my first time being involved with a full professional theatre production, even though I wasn’t paid for my part in it. The show only had a small cast of three professional actors – Carol Burns, Marc Richards, and Emily Tomlins – and there were a large ensemble of volunteer actors which we appeared onstage for only in one scene.

From memory, the show involved one of the characters being a milliner, and the scene required us volunteers to all wear a custom-made hat in a parade style showing. Each volunteer had their own had created & designed, and we got to keep it at the end of the production run as a thank you. My hat was a large brimmed blue and white creation which was supposed to represent the ocean. I still have the hat somewhere, so will take a photo and put it on here later (if I remember), but there were no other photos taken that I have (or am aware of) from the show itself.
